Stories of Service invites youth and youth service groups in the Washington, D.C. area to join us this Memorial Day (Monday, May 25) to honor America’s fallen by recommitting themselves to the service of our nation, communities, and veterans.

By joining our coalition of service organizations for a special Day of Service and National Call to Service rally, participants will help preserve and advance the freedoms, values and ideals for which our nation’s fallen made the ultimate sacrifice.

This gathering will celebrate the recent passage of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, and follow up our successful Pre-Inaugural West Coast Call to Service of January 19.

Activities during this Memorial Day Call to Service will include:

10:00 AM - Attending and supporting a special commemoration at the U.S. Navy Memorial

11:00 AM - 3:00 PM - Supporting the National Memorial Day Parade by distributing parade information , or by helping carry images of our veterans in the parade

3:30 PM - Promoting and participating in a National Call to Service rally in front of the National World War II Memorial, urging Americans of all ages to make a personal commitment to service
Participants will be eligible for up to seven hours of community service, a special letter from rally co-Chairs Ernest Borgnine and Edith Shain, and additional recognition from the U.S. Navy Memorial, the American Veterans Center, and the Be The Change coalition.

To commit to join us, or to receive further information, please e-mail us at 2009rally@stories-of-service.org.
