National History Day Stories of Service is proud to work with National History Day to mobilize youth to preserve our history! This national contest engages half a million students, supported by thousands of teachers, who produce documentaries, papers, exhibits, websites or performances focusing on an annual theme. The program includes competitions at the local, state and national levels, which culminate in a national competition each June at the University of Maryland at College Park. This year's theme, The Individual in History, is a perfect opportunity for students to help tell the story of a World War II veteran or other senior in their community by producing a documentary that explores this individual's experiences (small or large!) in shaping historical events. Using our Digital Story Toolkit, students can expand an existing Digital Story, start a new National History Day documentary, or utilize specific toolkit components to produce a NHD documentary. In addition, NHD participants who submit documentaries about those who served in uniform (particularly in World War II) will be eligible for Stories of Service and other recognition! |
