Submission Requirements
Videos that meet the following requirements will be presented on our website at our online theater. Youth producers are also eligible for additional recognition.
If you are creating a new video, follow the guidelines in our Digital Story Toolkit to make sure that your projects meets these requirements. If you would like to submit a video that you have already created, you may need to edit your video so that it meets our requirements:

Format

Videos must be at least 3 minutes and no more than 10 minutes long

Videos may be submitted and uploaded online, or mailed to our offices as a non-copy-protected DVD, or on disk as a digital file (.mpg, .avi or ..mov). Click here for a printable submission form for mailing.
Content

Videos must be about the World War II era (From the pre-war Depression through post-war rebuilding)

Videos must be about Videos must focus on personal experiences (not a history of WWII, description of a battle, etc.)

Videos must be in English, or subtitled in English

Videos must include narration or voice recordings of individuals who personally experienced the events being described

Videos do not need to be about combat veterans. They may be about individuals who supported the war effort in uniform or in other ways.

Videos may be about individuals from other countries, as long as there is some connection to the United States or the larger themes of freedom, democracy, service and sacrifice.

Videos must be appropriate for a middle school audience (”PG-13”). No graphic language or unnecessarily graphic visuals.
Testimonial

The producer(s) of the video must submit a testimonial essay (250-500 words) describing what they learned by producing the video.

If possible, the producer(s) should obtain and submit a testimonial from the subject(s) of the video (WWII veterans or other “Storytellers”, or their families).
Other requirements

The person submitting the video must have permission from individuals appearing in the video to share the video for educational purposes.

Videos should be produced for educational purposes OR... if the video was produced for commercial purposes, the submitter must affirm that all rights and clearances have been obtained and that no financial obligations are passed on to Stories of Service, its parent organization, or its partners.

The person submitting the video must have produced the video, or have permission from the producer to submit the video
