My Glide for Life

World War II; U.S. Air Force/Air Corps

John Buecheler was born in Syracuse, New York.

After the news of Pearl Harbor, John joined the Air Corps to learn how to pilot gliders and fly powered aircraft. He served as a pilot in the 392nd Bomb Group, flying missions over Germany.

In this story, he recalls how his glider experience helped in his escape from his doomed B-24 bomber.
