| Hi, I'm Ernest Borgnine.
You probably know me as a famous film and television actor.
Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to receive some wonderful recognition for my work.
But what I'm proudest of is my 10 years as a sailor in the United States Navy, especially my service during World War II.
I was among the millions of Americans who answered our nation's callin its hour of need – a part of what's been called the “Greatest Generation”.
Today, our generation is rapidly disappearing. I’ve heard that one WWII veteran passes away every 90 seconds. Before you know, all of us will be gone, takingour first-hand memories of what happened during the last century with us…
This is why I am so excited to be a part of the Stories of Service program. Stories of Service is a non-profit program that is mobilizing young people across America to capture these precious stories before they're lost forever.
Student volunteers use computers to help World War II veterans and others who served to create short videos about the personal experiences of these men and women.
These videos are shared at public events, museums, schools, libraries and with the whole world on the Internet.
I urge you to join this important effort to ensure that the legacy ofthe World War II generation will continue to educate and inspire young people today, as well as future generations of Americans.
I've made my movies – it's time for someone to make yours!
Thank you, and God Bless!
